Effect of Acute Physical Exercise on Peripheral Skin Temperature

Abstract

The study examines the effect of acute physical exercise on peripheral skin temperature among young adults, with emphasis on the changes in skin temperature that may occur following a single session of physical activity. Peripheral skin temperature reflects the interaction between blood flow, heat production, and thermoregulatory mechanisms that help maintain body temperature during physical activity. Understanding the response of peripheral skin temperature to acute exercise may provide useful information on normal physiological adaptation and the functional relationship between exercise and peripheral circulation. The study will assess peripheral skin temperature before and after a standardized session of acute physical exercise among healthy young adults. Skin temperature will be measured at selected peripheral anatomical sites, such as the hands, forearms, feet, or lower legs, using an appropriate non-invasive temperature measurement device. Baseline measurements will be obtained before exercise, followed by measurements at standardized intervals after exercise to document changes in peripheral temperature during the immediate recovery period. A comparative descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of healthy young adults will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Data obtained from the selected peripheral sites before and after exercise will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while an appropriate paired or comparative inferential test will be applied to determine whether observed changes in peripheral skin temperature are statistically significant. The study is expected to reveal measurable changes in peripheral skin temperature following acute physical exercise. Some peripheral regions may demonstrate a reduction in skin temperature during or immediately after exercise as a result of changes in peripheral blood flow and redistribution of blood to meet the increased physiological demands of exercise, while subsequent recovery may be associated with gradual temperature changes. The magnitude and pattern of temperature response may vary across anatomical sites and among individual participants. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiologists, physiotherapists, sports scientists, occupational health professionals, and other healthcare practitioners involved in exercise assessment and thermoregulation. The study may provide useful information on the peripheral temperature response to acute physical activity and contribute to the understanding of the interaction between exercise, peripheral circulation, and skin temperature regulation. The study will conclude by documenting the observed changes in peripheral skin temperature following acute physical exercise among the study population. It is recommended that standardized exercise intensity, environmental conditions, and temperature measurement procedures be used when assessing peripheral temperature responses to exercise, while further studies involving different exercise intensities and larger populations should be conducted to provide broader reference information on exercise-related thermoregulatory responses.
