Correlation Between Nasal Index and Cranial Index Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the correlation between nasal index and cranial index among undergraduate students. The nasal index and cranial index are important anthropometric indices used to describe the proportional characteristics of the nose and skull. Examining the relationship between these indices may provide useful information on craniofacial proportions and contribute to the understanding of anatomical variation among young adults. The study will determine the nasal index and cranial index of undergraduate students and assess the correlation between the two indices. Nasal height and breadth will be measured using standardized nasal landmarks, while head length and breadth will be obtained using appropriate cranial landmarks. The respective indices will then be calculated and analyzed to determine whether variations in nasal proportions are associated with variations in cranial proportions. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Nasal and cranial measurements will be obtained directly using suitable anthropometric instruments and standardized procedures. The data collected will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the strength and direction of the relationship between nasal index and cranial index. The study is expected to reveal the distribution and range of nasal and cranial indices among the participants. It is also expected to demonstrate whether a measurable correlation exists between the two indices. The findings may provide useful information on proportional relationships between nasal and cranial morphology and contribute to the documentation of craniofacial variation among undergraduate students. The findings will be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, forensic practitioners, clinicians, and researchers involved in craniofacial and anthropometric studies. The information may contribute to anthropometric reference data, craniofacial classification, forensic identification, anatomical assessment, and the understanding of variations in nasal and cranial proportions. The study will conclude by providing information on the correlation between nasal index and cranial index among undergraduate students. It will recommend the use of standardized anatomical landmarks and anthropometric procedures in future studies and encourage research involving larger and more diverse populations to establish broader reference data on nasal and cranial indices.
