Assessment of Farmers’ Knowledge of Relative Humidity in Crop Production

Abstract

The study assesses farmers’ knowledge of relative humidity in crop production. Relative humidity is an important weather factor that influences crop growth, water loss, disease development, pollination, and the effectiveness of certain crop production activities. Understanding the role of relative humidity can help farmers make informed decisions concerning crop management and respond appropriately to changing environmental conditions. The study will assess farmers’ level of knowledge of relative humidity and determine their understanding of its meaning, importance, measurement, and influence on crop production. It will also examine farmers’ knowledge of how variations in relative humidity affect crop growth, moisture conditions, disease occurrence, irrigation needs, and other agricultural activities. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. Data will be collected from selected farmers using structured questionnaires administered through an appropriate sampling procedure. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation, while an appropriate inferential statistical technique may be used to examine differences in farmers’ knowledge levels. The study is expected to reveal varying levels of farmers’ knowledge of relative humidity in crop production. Some farmers are expected to demonstrate knowledge of the relationship between humidity and crop growth, moisture availability, and crop diseases, while others may have limited understanding of how relative humidity influences agricultural activities. Limited access to agricultural weather information and inadequate technical guidance may be identified as factors affecting farmers’ knowledge. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, policymakers, and farmers’ organizations by providing information on farmers’ understanding of relative humidity and its relevance to crop production. The findings may also assist extension personnel in developing appropriate educational programmes that improve farmers’ understanding and use of weather information in farm management. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of relative humidity can support farmers in making informed crop production decisions and managing weather-related challenges. It will recommend strengthening extension education on agricultural weather factors, improving farmers’ access to understandable weather information, and providing practical guidance on the application of relative humidity information in crop production.
