Effect of Adult Learning on Workers’ Understanding of Organizational Policies

Abstract

Organizational policies provide formal guidelines that regulate workplace activities, employee responsibilities, decision-making processes, conduct, and the general operations of an organization. Workers need adequate understanding of these policies to perform their responsibilities appropriately, recognize organizational expectations, and make informed decisions within the workplace. However, inadequate understanding of organizational policies may contribute to inappropriate conduct, procedural errors, misunderstandings, and difficulties in complying with workplace requirements. This study will examine the effect of Adult Learning on workers’ understanding of organizational policies. Adult Learning provides opportunities for workers to acquire and improve knowledge through practical experiences, discussions, workshops, group activities, demonstrations, and workplace-related learning exercises. Through these learning experiences, workers can become more familiar with the content, purpose, scope, and application of organizational policies. Adult Learning can also help workers examine policy provisions in relation to realistic workplace situations, enabling them to understand how organizational policies guide their responsibilities, interactions, and decisions. Understanding of organizational policies refers to workers’ ability to identify, comprehend, explain, and apply the major provisions, requirements, responsibilities, and expectations contained in workplace policies. Such understanding enables workers to recognize acceptable practices, follow organizational guidelines, and respond appropriately to workplace situations. Adult Learning can strengthen this understanding by using practical examples, workplace scenarios, discussions, and problem-solving activities that connect policy information with workers’ actual experiences. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise workers participating in selected Adult Learning programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate assessment designed to measure workers’ understanding of organizational policies. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of Adult Learning on workers’ understanding of organizational policies. The study is expected to establish that Adult Learning has a positive effect on workers’ understanding of organizational policies. Workers who participate in relevant learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved understanding of policy provisions, workplace responsibilities, organizational expectations, and appropriate responses to policy-related situations. The study is also expected to indicate that practical and workplace-oriented learning experiences can make organizational policies easier for workers to understand and apply. The findings will have implications for Adult Learning practitioners, workplace trainers, human resource managers, organizational administrators, and programme planners. Adult Learning programmes should incorporate practical activities that enable workers to examine organizational policies and relate their provisions to workplace situations. Policy discussions, case studies, scenario-based activities, and guided interpretation exercises may help workers develop clearer understanding of policy requirements and improve their ability to apply them appropriately. The study will be significant to workers, employers, Adult Learning practitioners, human resource departments, and organizations seeking to promote effective workplace practices. It is expected to demonstrate the value of Adult Learning in strengthening workers’ understanding of policies that guide organizational activities and employee responsibilities. The study will recommend regular policy-focused learning activities, practical policy interpretation exercises, and accessible learning materials to improve workers’ understanding. It will conclude that effective Adult Learning can contribute to better understanding of organizational policies and support more informed and responsible workplace practices.
