Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Waste Collection Scheduling

Abstract

Waste collection scheduling refers to the organized arrangement of specific days, times, routes, and procedures for the collection of household and community waste. Adult Education can provide adults with relevant knowledge that enables them to understand, follow, and respond appropriately to waste collection schedules. This study will examine the effect of Adult Education on adults’ knowledge of waste collection scheduling. The study is important because inadequate knowledge of collection schedules may contribute to improper waste disposal, missed collection opportunities, accumulation of waste, and poor environmental conditions within communities. Adult Education can expose adults to important aspects of waste collection scheduling, including collection days, designated collection times, collection routes, waste preparation requirements, collection points, and procedures for dealing with missed collections. Through discussions, demonstrations, community information activities, practical exercises, and interpretation of waste-management notices, adults can develop a clearer understanding of how waste collection systems operate. Such learning can also encourage adults to organize household waste in accordance with established collection arrangements. Adults’ knowledge of waste collection scheduling involves their ability to identify collection days and times, understand collection instructions, recognize designated collection points, and follow procedures associated with waste collection services. Adequate knowledge can help adults plan household waste disposal more effectively and reduce practices that may interfere with organized collection activities. Adult Education can strengthen this knowledge by connecting learning experiences with actual community waste-management arrangements and encouraging adults to apply relevant information in their daily routines. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of waste collection scheduling. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of Adult Education on adults’ knowledge of waste collection scheduling. The study is expected to establish that participation in Adult Education contributes positively to adults’ knowledge of waste collection scheduling. Adults exposed to relevant educational activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of collection days, designated times, collection points, waste preparation procedures, and appropriate responses to changes in collection arrangements. The study may further establish that practical and community-based learning activities are useful for helping adults interpret waste collection information and integrate collection schedules into household waste-management practices. The findings will have implications for Adult Education practitioners, community educators, environmental organizations, and waste-management programme planners. Adult Education programmes can incorporate practical waste-management activities that expose adults to collection schedules and help them interpret relevant notices, announcements, and service information. Community demonstrations, scheduling exercises, visual materials, and problem-solving activities can make learning more practical and encourage adults to participate more effectively in organized waste collection systems. The study will be significant to adult learners, households, community members, Adult Education practitioners, environmental organizations, and waste-management stakeholders by providing information on the role of education in improving knowledge of waste collection scheduling. It will recommend greater inclusion of practical waste-management information in relevant Adult Education programmes and the use of learner-centred activities that relate directly to community waste collection arrangements. The study will conclude that Adult Education can provide an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of waste collection scheduling and promoting more organized household and community waste-management practices.
