Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Ability to Develop Simple Business Pitches

Abstract

Adult Education refers to organized learning opportunities that enable adults to acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies for personal, social, and economic development, while the ability to develop simple business pitches refers to the capacity to prepare a brief, clear, and organized presentation of a business idea, product, service, or opportunity. The ability to develop effective business pitches is important because adults engaged in entrepreneurship or business activities may need to communicate their ideas to customers, investors, partners, employers, or other stakeholders. However, some adults may lack the knowledge and practical skills required to organize and present business ideas effectively. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of Adult Education on adults’ ability to develop simple business pitches. Adult Education provides adults with opportunities to acquire practical knowledge through classroom instruction, discussions, demonstrations, assignments, workshops, and experiential learning activities. These learning experiences can expose adults to basic principles of business communication, idea development, problem identification, value proposition, audience awareness, and message organization. Through practical exercises, adult learners can also develop the ability to arrange business information logically and communicate essential aspects of a business idea within a limited amount of time. Developing a simple business pitch requires the ability to identify a business problem or opportunity, describe a proposed product or service, explain its value, identify the intended customers, and communicate the idea in a clear and organized manner. Adults who participate in relevant educational activities may develop stronger abilities to organize business information and communicate their ideas effectively. Adult Education can therefore contribute to improved business-pitch development by providing learners with knowledge and opportunities to practise basic business planning and communication skills. The study will adopt a descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education and entrepreneurship-related programmes, from which a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to measure participation in Adult Education and adults’ ability to develop simple business pitches. The instrument will be subjected to appropriate validity and reliability procedures before administration. Data collected will be analysed using descriptive statistics and appropriate inferential statistical techniques. The study is expected to establish that Adult Education has a significant positive effect on adults’ ability to develop simple business pitches. Adults who participate in relevant adult education programmes are expected to demonstrate greater ability to identify business opportunities, organize business ideas, describe products or services, communicate value, and prepare concise pitch presentations. The study may further indicate that practical exercises and guided business activities improve adults’ confidence and competence in developing simple business pitches. The findings will have implications for teaching and learning in Adult Education by emphasizing the importance of incorporating practical entrepreneurship and business communication activities into adult learning programmes. Adult educators may use business scenarios, pitch-development exercises, group activities, demonstrations, and feedback sessions to help learners transform basic business ideas into organized pitches. Such activities can provide learners with practical opportunities to apply classroom knowledge to real-life entrepreneurial situations. The study will be beneficial to adult learners, entrepreneurs, adult educators, entrepreneurship trainers, small business support organizations, and policymakers. Adult learners and prospective entrepreneurs may benefit from improved ability to communicate business ideas in a structured manner. Adult educators and entrepreneurship trainers may gain useful approaches for strengthening practical business education, while organizations supporting small businesses may use the findings to design training activities that improve adults’ business communication and idea-development abilities. The study will recommend that Adult Education programmes incorporate simple business-pitch development activities into entrepreneurship and skills-development courses. Adult educators should provide learners with opportunities to identify business opportunities, organize ideas, develop concise business messages, practise pitch presentations, and receive constructive feedback. Entrepreneurship programmes should also emphasize practical application rather than relying solely on theoretical instruction. The study concludes that effective Adult Education can strengthen adults’ ability to develop simple business pitches and improve their capacity to communicate business ideas clearly and systematically.
