Sexual Dimorphism in Suprascapular Notch Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The suprascapular notch is an important anatomical feature located along the superior border of the scapula and serves as a passageway for the suprascapular nerve and associated vessels. Variations in its dimensions may influence the anatomical relationship between the notch and the structures passing through it and may have implications for clinical conditions affecting the suprascapular nerve. Differences in skeletal morphology between males and females may also contribute to variations in suprascapular notch dimensions. The study will therefore examine sexual dimorphism in suprascapular notch dimensions among young adults. The study will determine and compare the width, depth, and other relevant dimensions of the suprascapular notch among male and female young adults. It will also examine the extent of variation in these measurements between the sexes and establish whether measurable differences exist in the morphology of the suprascapular notch. The study will provide anatomical data that may contribute to a better understanding of sex-related differences in scapular morphology. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adult participants will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and the scapulae will be assessed using standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures. Measurements of the suprascapular notch will be obtained through appropriate imaging-based or osteological assessment methods, depending on the study setting and available materials. The data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistical tests will be used to compare measurements between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in suprascapular notch dimensions between male and female young adults.
