Sexual Dimorphism in Supraorbital Foramen Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in supraorbital foramen dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on differences in the size and morphology of the supraorbital foramen between male and female individuals. The supraorbital foramen is an important opening along the superior margin of the orbit that transmits the supraorbital nerve and associated blood vessels. Knowledge of its dimensions and anatomical variation is important for understanding craniofacial anatomy and may provide useful information for clinical, radiological, and forensic applications. The study will assess selected dimensions of the supraorbital foramen among young adult males and females using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate imaging-based or osteological measurement procedures. The specific objectives will include determining the length, breadth, and other measurable dimensions of the supraorbital foramen, documenting its morphological characteristics, assessing right and left side variation where applicable, and comparing the observed measurements between male and female groups. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults or suitable cranial imaging or osteological specimens will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Measurements will be obtained using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate measurement procedures.
