Relationship Between Supraorbital Notch Position and Orbital Dimensions Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between supraorbital notch position and orbital dimensions among undergraduate students. The supraorbital notch is an important anatomical feature located along the superior margin of the orbit and provides passage for the supraorbital nerve and vessels. Its position in relation to surrounding orbital structures is clinically relevant because variations may influence regional anaesthesia, orbital and forehead procedures, craniofacial surgery, and other interventions involving the upper facial region. The study will aim to determine the position of the supraorbital notch in relation to standardized anatomical landmarks and assess selected orbital dimensions among undergraduate students. It will also examine the relationship between supraorbital notch position and the measured orbital dimensions. The study will further document variations in the location of the supraorbital notch and provide information on its spatial relationship with the surrounding orbital structures. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. The position of the supraorbital notch and selected orbital dimensions will be assessed using standardized anatomical landmarks and suitable imaging or osteological measurement procedures. Data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate correlation and inferential statistical techniques will be applied to determine the relationship between supraorbital notch position and orbital dimensions. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in the position of the supraorbital notch and orbital dimensions among the participants. A statistically significant association may be observed between the position of the supraorbital notch and selected orbital measurements. The findings are expected to demonstrate patterns of anatomical variation that may contribute to a better understanding of the spatial relationship between the supraorbital notch and the morphology of the orbit. The findings will be useful to anatomists, ophthalmologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, dentists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in procedures around the orbit and upper facial region. Information on the relationship between supraorbital notch position and orbital dimensions may assist in anatomical localization, regional anaesthesia, radiological assessment, and surgical planning. The study may also provide reference information for anatomical education and future craniofacial research. The study will conclude by providing information on the relationship between supraorbital notch position and orbital dimensions among undergraduate students. It will recommend the use of standardized anatomical and imaging procedures when evaluating the supraorbital region and surrounding orbital structures. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations will also be recommended to establish broader reference data on supraorbital notch position and orbital morphology.
