Relationship Between Clivus Length and Foramen Magnum Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between clivus length and foramen magnum dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on the anatomical association between these important structures at the cranial base. The clivus forms a sloping portion of the internal cranial base and extends toward the foramen magnum, while the foramen magnum provides the major opening through which the medulla and associated neurovascular structures pass between the cranial cavity and vertebral canal. Variations in the dimensions of these structures may provide useful information for understanding cranial base morphology and may have relevance in radiological assessment, neurosurgical planning, and craniofacial anatomical studies. The study aims to determine the relationship between clivus length and selected dimensions of the foramen magnum among young adults. It will specifically measure clivus length, determine the length and breadth of the foramen magnum, and assess the degree of association between clivus length and the measured foramen magnum dimensions. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be employed for the study. Appropriate sampling procedures will be used to select eligible young adult participants, while measurements of the clivus and foramen magnum will be obtained using suitable imaging-based or osteological assessment methods and standardized anatomical landmarks. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between clivus length and foramen magnum dimensions. Appropriate statistical tests will be applied to determine the significance of the observed relationships. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in clivus length and foramen magnum dimensions among the participants and may demonstrate varying degrees of association between the measured parameters.
