Morphological Variation of the Tibialis Anterior Muscle Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the morphological variation of the tibialis anterior muscle among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in its anatomical configuration, dimensions, and structural characteristics. The tibialis anterior is a major muscle of the anterior compartment of the leg and plays an important role in dorsiflexion and inversion of the foot. Understanding its morphological characteristics is important for appreciating individual variation in lower-limb anatomy and for supporting clinical and functional assessment of the leg and ankle region. The study will assess the morphological characteristics of the tibialis anterior muscle among undergraduate students using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include identifying different morphological patterns of the muscle, determining selected dimensions, documenting variations in its shape and configuration, and assessing observable differences in its anatomical characteristics among the study participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of undergraduate students will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Data on the morphology and dimensions of the tibialis anterior muscle will be obtained through standardized anatomical or imaging-based assessment procedures, depending on the method employed. It is recommended that standardized anatomical and imaging-based procedures be used when evaluating the muscle and that further studies involving larger and more diverse populations be conducted to establish broader reference data on tibialis anterior muscle morphology and anatomical variation.
