Correlation Between Hand Grip Strength and Hand Length Among Young Adults
Abstract
The study examines the correlation between hand grip strength and hand length among young adults. Hand grip strength is an important functional measure of muscular performance and hand function, while hand length represents a measurable anthropometric characteristic of the upper limb. Understanding the relationship between these variables may provide useful information on the association between hand morphology and functional capacity among young adults. The study will determine the hand grip strength of the participants and measure their hand length using standardized anthropometric procedures. Hand grip strength will be assessed using a calibrated hand dynamometer, while hand length will be measured from appropriate anatomical landmarks using a non-stretchable measuring device. The study will also examine variations in both measurements and determine the degree of association between hand length and hand grip strength. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the predetermined inclusion criteria will be selected through an appropriate sampling technique. Standardized procedures will be followed during participant positioning, hand measurement, and grip strength assessment to improve measurement consistency. Data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between hand length and hand grip strength. The study is expected to reveal variations in hand length and grip strength among the participants. It is also expected to identify whether a measurable positive, negative, or weak relationship exists between hand length and hand grip strength. The findings may provide useful anthropometric and functional information on the extent to which hand size is associated with grip performance among young adults. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports scientists, ergonomists, rehabilitation professionals, and other health-related practitioners. The information may contribute to the understanding of normal hand dimensions and functional strength and may provide reference information for ergonomic assessment, rehabilitation planning, sports-related evaluation, and further anthropometric research. The study will conclude by providing information on the relationship between hand grip strength and hand length among young adults. It will be recommended that standardized anthropometric and dynamometric procedures be maintained in studies involving hand dimensions and grip strength. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations will also be encouraged to provide broader reference data and improve understanding of the relationship between hand morphology and functional performance.
