Comparative Study of Cervical Mobility Between Male and Female Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the comparative cervical mobility between male and female undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in the range of movement of the cervical spine under standardized assessment conditions. Cervical mobility is an important component of normal head and neck function and allows movements such as flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation. Understanding variations in cervical mobility between male and female undergraduate students may provide useful information on normal functional differences in cervical movement among young adults. The study will assess and compare cervical mobility between male and female undergraduate students using standardized clinical and anthropometric assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include determining the range of cervical movement among male participants, assessing cervical mobility among female participants, comparing the measured ranges of motion between the two groups, and evaluating differences in specific cervical movements such as flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation. A cross-sectional comparative research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of male and female undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Cervical mobility will be assessed using standardized procedures and suitable instruments for measuring cervical range of motion under controlled conditions. Data obtained from the assessment will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate comparative inferential statistical tests will be applied to determine whether measurable differences exist between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in cervical mobility among the participants. Differences may be observed between male and female undergraduate students in selected cervical movements, including flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation, with some measurements potentially showing statistically significant differences. The findings are expected to demonstrate that cervical mobility may vary between individuals and between the two groups when assessed using standardized procedures. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, orthopaedic practitioners, rehabilitation specialists, sports medicine professionals, and other healthcare professionals involved in the assessment of cervical spine function. The study may provide useful reference information on normal cervical range of motion among undergraduate students and may support the interpretation of functional assessments involving the neck and upper musculoskeletal region. The study will conclude by documenting the comparative cervical mobility of male and female undergraduate students within the study population. It is recommended that standardized procedures and appropriate measurement instruments be used when assessing cervical range of motion, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to establish broader reference data on cervical mobility and sex-related functional variation.
