Effect of Extension Training on Farmers’ Adoption of Produce Delivery Record Systems

Abstract

The study examines the effect of extension training on farmers’ adoption of produce delivery record systems. Produce delivery record systems involve the systematic documentation of information relating to the quantity, type, destination, date, recipient, and other relevant details of agricultural produce delivered to buyers or other points within the agricultural value chain. Proper delivery records can improve accountability, traceability, inventory management, marketing decisions, and coordination between farmers and produce buyers. Extension training can provide farmers with the knowledge and practical skills required to establish and maintain effective produce delivery records. The study will assess the nature and extent of extension training received by farmers on produce delivery record systems. It will specifically examine farmers’ exposure to training, knowledge of delivery record procedures, ability to document produce deliveries, and level of adoption of produce delivery record systems. The study will also identify the major challenges that may affect farmers’ adoption of proper delivery recording practices. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom respondents will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected through structured questionnaires designed to obtain information on farmers’ exposure to extension training, knowledge, and adoption of produce delivery record systems. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, means, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistical techniques will be used to determine the effect of extension training on farmers’ adoption of produce delivery record systems. The study is expected to reveal that farmers who receive regular and practical extension training will demonstrate greater adoption of produce delivery record systems. Training is expected to improve farmers’ understanding of the importance of recording delivery dates, quantities, destinations, buyers, and other relevant transaction details. However, inadequate training opportunities, limited record-keeping skills, lack of suitable recording materials, low awareness, and limited extension coverage may constrain adoption among some farmers. The findings will provide useful information to agricultural extension personnel, policymakers, agricultural development agencies, farmers’ organizations, produce marketers, and other stakeholders involved in agricultural marketing and value-chain development. The study is expected to demonstrate the importance of practical extension training in improving farmers’ record-keeping abilities and strengthening produce delivery management. Effective delivery records may help farmers monitor transactions, reduce discrepancies, improve accountability, and make more informed marketing decisions. The study will conclude that extension training can play an important role in improving farmers’ adoption of produce delivery record systems. It will recommend regular training programmes, practical demonstrations, simplified record-keeping formats, and continuous advisory support for farmers. Strengthening farmers’ capacity to maintain accurate produce delivery records is expected to contribute to improved traceability, accountability, marketing efficiency, and management of agricultural produce.
