Effect of Extension Training on Farmers’ Adoption of Emergency Farm Record Preservation

Abstract

Farm records provide important information for planning, monitoring, financial management, and decision-making in agricultural production. However, farm records may be lost or damaged through fire, flooding, theft, equipment failure, accidental destruction, or other emergencies. Emergency farm record preservation involves practices used by farmers to protect important farm records and ensure that they remain available after unexpected events. Extension training can provide farmers with knowledge and practical skills on appropriate methods of protecting, storing, backing up, and recovering farm records. This study will examine the effect of extension training on farmers’ adoption of emergency farm record preservation practices. The study will assess how participation in extension training influences farmers’ knowledge and use of appropriate measures for protecting farm records during emergencies. It will also determine the extent to which trained farmers adopt practices that support the safe preservation and recovery of important farm records. The study will focus on extension training, emergency farm record preservation, farmers’ knowledge of record protection, physical record storage, digital record storage, record backup practices, document protection, emergency preparedness, record recovery practices, and farm record management. Attention will also be given to farmers’ use of protective storage materials, duplicate records, digital copies, secure locations, and other appropriate preservation methods. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Data will be collected from farmers through structured questionnaires designed to obtain information on their exposure to extension training and their adoption of emergency farm record preservation practices. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations will be used to summarize the data, while correlation and regression analysis may be used to determine the relationship between extension training and farmers’ adoption of emergency record preservation practices. The study is expected to reveal that extension training may improve farmers’ knowledge and adoption of emergency farm record preservation practices. Farmers who receive relevant training may demonstrate greater awareness of the importance of protecting farm records and may be more likely to maintain duplicate copies, use secure storage systems, and adopt digital or other backup methods. The extent of adoption may depend on the availability of suitable storage facilities, digital tools, training exposure, and farmers’ understanding of record preservation procedures. The study will be useful to agricultural extension agents, farmers, agricultural development organizations, government agencies, financial institutions, cooperatives, and researchers. The findings may assist extension personnel in developing training programmes that address farm record protection and emergency preparedness. The study may also provide useful information for strengthening farmers’ record management practices and reducing the potential loss of important production, financial, and administrative information. The study concludes that extension training can play an important role in improving farmers’ adoption of emergency farm record preservation practices by providing relevant knowledge and practical guidance. It is therefore recommended that agricultural extension organizations incorporate emergency record preservation into farmer training programmes, demonstrate simple and affordable preservation methods, and encourage farmers to maintain secure physical and digital backups of important farm records.
