Abstract
The study will assess farmers’ knowledge of land rehabilitation techniques. Land rehabilitation is important for restoring degraded agricultural land, improving soil productivity, reducing erosion, and supporting sustainable crop production. Adequate knowledge of appropriate rehabilitation techniques can help farmers restore the productive capacity of degraded land and maintain its long-term agricultural value. The study will focus on farmers’ knowledge of land rehabilitation techniques, including erosion control, organic matter restoration, soil amendment, vegetative cover establishment, mulching, contour farming, terracing, agroforestry, and other practices used to improve degraded farmland. It will also examine farmers’ understanding of the causes of land degradation and the appropriate techniques for restoring affected agricultural land. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to assess farmers’ knowledge of land rehabilitation techniques. The data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and an appropriate inferential statistical technique. The study is expected to reveal the level of farmers’ knowledge of land rehabilitation techniques and identify areas of adequate and inadequate knowledge. It is also expected to provide information on farmers’ understanding of erosion control, soil fertility restoration, vegetation management, organic matter improvement, and other approaches used to rehabilitate degraded agricultural land. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, environmental management institutions, farmers’ organizations, and policymakers by providing information on farmers’ knowledge of land rehabilitation techniques. The findings may also assist extension personnel in developing practical training programmes and field demonstrations aimed at improving farmers’ understanding of sustainable land restoration practices. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of land rehabilitation techniques is important for promoting sustainable management and restoration of degraded agricultural land. It will recommend regular extension education, practical demonstrations, farm visits, and technical guidance on erosion control, soil restoration, vegetation establishment, and other appropriate rehabilitation techniques to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and support sustainable land management.
