Abstract
The study will assess farmers’ knowledge of ecological restoration practices on farmland. Ecological restoration is important for improving degraded agricultural environments, restoring soil quality, conserving biodiversity, and maintaining the long-term productivity of farmland. Adequate knowledge of restoration practices can help farmers protect natural resources and improve the ecological condition of agricultural landscapes. The study will focus on farmers’ knowledge of ecological restoration practices, including restoration of vegetation cover, soil organic matter improvement, erosion control, use of cover crops, tree planting, conservation of beneficial organisms, protection of waterways, and restoration of degraded areas within farmland. It will also examine farmers’ understanding of the importance, application, and benefits of different ecological restoration practices for sustainable agricultural production. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to assess farmers’ knowledge of ecological restoration practices on farmland. The data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and an appropriate inferential statistical technique. The study is expected to reveal the level of farmers’ knowledge of ecological restoration practices and identify areas of adequate and inadequate knowledge. It is also expected to provide information on farmers’ understanding of soil restoration, vegetation establishment, erosion management, biodiversity conservation, waterway protection, and other practices that contribute to the ecological improvement of farmland. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, environmental management institutions, farmers’ organizations, and policymakers by providing information on farmers’ knowledge of ecological restoration practices. The findings may also assist extension personnel in developing practical training programmes, field demonstrations, and technical guidance aimed at improving farmers’ understanding of ecological restoration and sustainable land management. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of ecological restoration practices is important for maintaining healthy and productive farmland. It will recommend regular extension education, practical demonstrations, farm visits, and technical guidance on soil restoration, vegetation management, erosion control, biodiversity conservation, and waterway protection to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and promote sustainable ecological management of agricultural land.
