Abstract
The study will assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural water conservation technologies. Efficient water management is important for sustainable agricultural production, particularly in areas where water availability may be limited or irregular. Adequate knowledge of water conservation technologies can help farmers use available water more efficiently, reduce unnecessary water losses, and support crop production under varying environmental conditions. The study will focus on farmers’ knowledge of agricultural water conservation technologies, including drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, rainwater harvesting, mulching, water storage systems, efficient irrigation scheduling, and other practices that contribute to improved water-use efficiency. It will also examine farmers’ understanding of the benefits, operation, maintenance, and appropriate application of these technologies in agricultural production. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural water conservation technologies. The data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and an appropriate inferential statistical technique. The study is expected to reveal the level of farmers’ knowledge of agricultural water conservation technologies and identify areas of adequate and inadequate knowledge. It is also expected to provide information on farmers’ understanding of the operation, benefits, maintenance, and appropriate use of different water conservation technologies in crop production. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, farmers’ organizations, water management institutions, and policymakers by providing information on farmers’ knowledge of water conservation technologies. The findings may also assist extension personnel in developing practical training programmes and demonstrations that improve farmers’ understanding of efficient water management and conservation methods. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of agricultural water conservation technologies is important for promoting efficient and sustainable water use in farming. It will recommend regular extension education, practical demonstrations, farm visits, and technical guidance on water conservation technologies to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and encourage appropriate use of available water resources.
