Effect of Policy Premium Allocation Structures on Life Insurance Fund Values

Abstract

Policy premium allocation structures refer to the manner in which premiums paid by policyholders are distributed among different components of a life insurance contract, such as savings, investment, risk benefits, administrative expenses, and other policy charges. The way premiums are allocated can influence the amount credited to policyholder funds and the growth of accumulated values over the duration of a contract. Proper assessment of premium allocation is therefore important in understanding the financial performance of life insurance funds. This study will examine the effect of policy premium allocation structures on life insurance fund values. It will assess how different methods of allocating policy premiums influence the accumulation and value of funds associated with life insurance policies. The study will also compare fund values under alternative premium allocation structures to determine the extent to which allocation decisions affect policyholder fund accumulation. The study will focus on policy premium allocation structures, life insurance fund values, premium payments, policyholder funds, investment allocations, risk charges, administrative expenses, savings components, investment returns, policy duration, accumulated values, actuarial valuation, and life insurance contracts. Actuarial and financial modelling techniques will be used to evaluate the development of policyholder fund values under different premium allocation assumptions. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant premium amounts, allocation proportions, policy charges, investment returns, policy durations, premium payment frequencies, and accumulated fund values will be analysed using actuarial and financial valuation methods. Descriptive analysis, comparative analysis, accumulation value calculations, sensitivity analysis, and mathematical modelling will be used to assess differences in life insurance fund values under alternative premium allocation structures. The study is expected to reveal that premium allocation structures may have a significant effect on life insurance fund values. A larger allocation of premiums toward savings or investment components is expected to support higher accumulated fund values, subject to investment returns and applicable charges, while higher allocations toward risk and administrative components may reduce the amount available for accumulation. The magnitude of the effect may depend on premium size, allocation proportions, investment performance, policy duration, charges, and premium payment frequency. The study will be useful to actuaries, life insurance companies, policyholders, investment managers, financial advisers, underwriters, regulators, researchers, and students of actuarial science. It may provide useful information for life insurance product design, policyholder fund management, premium allocation decisions, investment planning, assessment of policy values, and evaluation of the financial implications of different allocation structures. The study concludes that policy premium allocation structures are important determinants of life insurance fund values because the distribution of premiums among investment, risk, and expense components influences the amount available for accumulation. It is therefore recommended that insurers carefully evaluate premium allocation structures and clearly assess their effects on policyholder fund values when designing and managing life insurance products.
