Effect of Life Insurance Benefit Escalation on Expected Contract Liabilities

Abstract

Life insurance benefit escalation refers to the increase in the amount of benefits payable under an insurance contract over time, according to specified contractual or actuarial terms. Escalating benefits can affect the expected amount and timing of future payments made by insurers and consequently influence the value of insurance contract liabilities. Proper assessment of benefit escalation is therefore important in actuarial valuation, liability estimation, and long-term insurance financial planning. The study examines the effect of life insurance benefit escalation on expected contract liabilities. It will assess how variations in benefit escalation rates influence the expected value of future obligations arising from life insurance contracts. The study will also examine the relationship between benefit escalation, policy duration, benefit amounts, mortality assumptions, premium structures, discount rates, and expected contract liability values. The study will focus on benefit escalation rates, life insurance benefits, expected contract liabilities, policy duration, mortality rates, survival probabilities, premium payments, and discount rates. Actuarial valuation techniques will be applied to estimate expected liabilities under alternative benefit escalation assumptions. Comparative and sensitivity analyses will be used to determine the extent to which changes in benefit escalation rates affect the present value of future insurance obligations. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant life insurance policy and financial data, including benefit amounts, escalation rates, policy durations, premium payments, mortality rates, survival probabilities, and interest rate assumptions, will be considered. The study may also assist insurers in evaluating the financial implications of different benefit escalation structures. The study concludes that life insurance benefit escalation is an important consideration in estimating expected contract liabilities. It is therefore recommended that insurers incorporate appropriate benefit escalation assumptions into actuarial valuation models, regularly review escalation rates, and conduct sensitivity analysis to assess their effects on future contract liability values.
