Abstract
Insurance portfolio maturity patterns refer to the distribution of insurance policies according to the periods at which their contractual benefits, premiums, or other cash flows are expected to mature or become payable. The maturity structure of an insurance portfolio is an important consideration in actuarial and financial planning because the timing of future cash inflows and outflows can influence the insurer’s liquidity position and projected financial obligations. Understanding these patterns is therefore relevant to accurate estimation of expected insurance cash flows. This study will examine the effect of insurance portfolio maturity patterns on expected cash flows. It will assess how differences in policy maturity periods and the concentration of policies across maturity dates influence the timing and value of expected cash inflows and outflows. The study will also examine the relationship between portfolio maturity patterns, premium payments, benefit payments, policy duration, and projected insurance cash flows. The study will focus on insurance portfolio maturity patterns, policy maturity periods, expected cash flows, premium income, benefit payments, policy duration, cash flow timing, policy termination, interest rates, and insurance liabilities. It is therefore recommended that insurers regularly analyse portfolio maturity structures, incorporate realistic maturity assumptions into actuarial cash flow models, and conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses to support effective liquidity and financial planning.
