Abstract
Exposure data accuracy refers to the degree to which information about insured risks correctly represents the actual amount and characteristics of insurance exposure. Accurate exposure data are important in actuarial analysis because premium calculations often depend on the number, value, duration, or other measurable characteristics of insured units. Errors or inconsistencies in exposure data may therefore affect the estimation of expected losses and the resulting insurance premiums. This study will examine the effect of exposure data accuracy on actuarial premium calculations. It will assess how differences in the accuracy and completeness of exposure information influence calculated premium levels. The study will also compare premium estimates generated from accurate exposure data with estimates obtained from data containing varying degrees of inaccuracies. The study will focus on exposure data accuracy, actuarial premium calculations, insurance exposure, premium estimation, expected losses, risk measurement, claims experience, exposure units, actuarial pricing, data quality, and insurance risk assessment. Historical exposure and claims data will be examined to identify the effects of exposure data errors on loss ratios, expected claims, and actuarial premium calculations. Accurate exposure information may produce more consistent estimates of expected losses and premiums, while inaccurate or incomplete exposure data may result in differences between estimated and appropriate premium levels. The magnitude of the effect may depend on the extent of data errors, exposure volume, claim frequency, claim severity, exposure measurement methods, and the characteristics of the insurance portfolio. The study will be useful to actuaries, insurance companies, pricing analysts, underwriters, data analysts, risk managers, claims managers, regulators, and researchers. It may provide useful information for improving exposure data management, strengthening actuarial pricing, enhancing premium adequacy, and supporting reliable insurance risk assessment. The findings may also assist insurers in identifying the financial implications of inaccurate exposure information when calculating premiums. The study concludes that exposure data accuracy is an important consideration in actuarial premium calculations because the quality of exposure information can influence expected loss estimates and resulting premium levels. It is therefore recommended that insurers establish effective exposure data validation procedures, regularly review exposure records, and apply appropriate actuarial techniques and sensitivity analysis to improve the reliability of premium calculations.
